What it means. Weatherization is the practice of making a building more energy efficient by sealing its exterior against wind and precipitation and protecting its interior from heat and cold. Buttoning up the envelope of a house with insulation weather-strips and caulk is the first line of defense.

  • Benefits of getting weatherization services:
  • Make your home more comfortable while using less energy
  • Prevent unnecessary wear and tear on your Heat and A/C Equipment
  • Lower your energy bill
  • Reduce allergens or other airborne contaminants
  • Save money

How the program works

Program Description

Funding from your Local Utility Company provides incentives to Service Providers who implement energy efficiency measures to eligible residence located in Oncor's service area. The incentives help offset the cost of energy efficiency measures completed in a consumer's home that otherwise may not be completed.

Program Incentives

The incentives cover the cost of predetermined measures completed in the home. The Program provides the incentive directly to the Service Provider (Millenia Construction Company, Inc.), who then determines what improvement measures are to be performed in the home. Our goal is to perform all energy efficiency measures at no expense to you.

Program Eligibility

Eligible residential customers must live in the Oncor Service Area and have not received services or participated in these programs during the past 10 years. Residents can't be part of a Co-Op (Coserv, Garland Utilities, Grayson County Utilities, etc). Homeowners and renters may participate, provided renters have permission from the homeowner.

Qualifying Measures

Weatherization Services include the following:

*Home Energy Efficiency Assessment*

Our Energy Auditor will come to your home and provide a free Energy Efficiency assessment; this assessment will address your HVAC leakage, and overall home tightness. We use a Blower Door to actually measure the leakage from your doors, windows, lights, and hidden places. Our Energy Auditor will provide you with details any deficiencies, suggest repairs, and this will help you prioritize which repairs you make and when.

*Caulking*

Window Caulking
Applying caulk around windows, both inside and out, will help prevent the migration of hot or cold air into the conditioned space of your home, keeping you cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. It is important to ensure the windows are sealed both where the glass meets the frames and where the frame meets the walls. This simple measure will help keep you comfortable and save you money.

*Weather Stripping*

Window Weather Stripping
Windows are a commonly overlooked area for infiltration, and weather-stripping is a quick and easy solution that will make a noticeable difference on comfort.

Doors Weather Stripping
Weather-stripping your exterior doors will reduce air infiltration. While this may not seem to be a large factor in your home’s performance, keep this in mind: a 1/8 inch gap around a door is equal to having a 6 inch by 6 inch hole in your wall.

*Sealing Plumbing & Electrical Penetrations*

Our premium service technician provides a home owner with a solid tangible energy service. Sealing electrical and plumbing penetrations can drastically increase your homes efficiency by protecting your home from outside air leaks.

Insulating Foam Sealant
Air leaks through holes and cracks account for 30%-50% of home heating and cooling loss. It is more important to seal these gaps which can be found around electrical outlets, plumbing lines, doors, windows and more.

Seal Can Lights
Sealing your can lights in your attic will prevent the infiltration of your conditioned space. Contractors typically overlook sealing can lights, but they are simply holes in your ceiling, and should be insulated. We suggest spray foam insulation, as it adheres to its surroundings, creating a tighter seal around the recessed can.

Outlet Gaskets
Outlet gaskets are an inexpensive way to seal all walls. Electrical boxes behind wall sockets penetrate into the wall cavity, which make them potential sources of air leakage. These polyethylene foam gaskets install behind electric outlet plate covers to reduce drafts.

*Duct Test & Sealing*

Properly sealing your air conditioning ducts will reduce the amount of cooling and heating required to keep your home comfortable. This saves energy and lower cooling and heating costs.

Duct Sealing
A typical duct system can lose about 15% of conditioned air through leaks, holes, and poorly connected ducts. Properly sealed ducts reduce energy loss and utility bills, and can improve your home s comfort, indoor air quality, safety, and humidity balance. Ducts distribute conditioned air throughout your house. Ductwork that is well sealed and insulated can help maintain a more even distribution of heated and cooled air in the home and improve indoor air quality by reducing the intake of pollutants such as dirt, dust, and mold into the duct system. Properly sealed ducts help prevent backdrafting of carbon monoxide from gas furnaces and water heaters into living spaces. Additionally, duct sealing helps air conditioning systems work more efficiently by avoiding the intake of hot, humid air from leaky return ducts.
